I took this photo last July at the Canadian War Cemetery, located in Dieppe in northern France. At the entrance it reads: "This burial ground was a gift from the French people for the perpetual resting place of the sailors, soldiers and airmen who are honoured here." My parents stopped here because they wanted my sister and I to see and pay our respects to all the Canadians who are buried here and who lost their lives in the Second World War. This photo makes the viewer feel a sense of peace and harmony, almost as if the tombstones are the soldiers' badges of honour, but do we really understand what they went through? And now they are forever silenced. I have nothing but respect for all the men and women who fought for our country and made it what it is today. RIP.

And to our surprise there were poppies growing on the side of the road. This definitely made everything fall into place, and felt so Canadian...
