Until January 8, 2012: Gabor Szilasi. The Eloquence of the Everyday:
Over the course of the last 50 years, Gabor Szilasi (b. Budapest, 1928) has created one of Canada’s significant and influential bodies of photographic work, comprising environmental portraits, domestic, commercial, and urban views of Montreal and Budapest, and images of rural Quebec. His photographs, which are found in numerous private and public collections in both Canada and Europe, have been sustained by an unwavering belief in the humanistic and documentary value of the medium. The 100 photographs exhibited uncover the essence of Gabor Szilasi’s artistic vision through his observations of urban and rural life and his recordings of the connections between culture and community. An exhibition organised by guest curator David Harris and the Musée d’art de Joliette, in collaboration with the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography.

Until January 15, 2012: Masse critique / Critical Mass. Sculpture by Shayne Dark:
Born 1952, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Shayne Dark currently resides in Hartington, Ontario. Shayne Dark has participated in numerous exhibitions in Canada and the United States since he began his artistic career in the mid 1980’s. Dark creates mainly sculptural works, taking a keen interest in every aspect of the process of art production, which he feels draws upon and focuses the physical and perceptual experience of the world. His works often evoke the contrasts between urban settings and the natural world, they are meant to stimulate a spiritual or visceral reaction in the viewer. Most recently, Dark won a significant public art competition: a permanent site-specific sculpture installation for the "X - The Condominium" project at Charles and Jarvis St in downtown Toronto.
Spaces and Landscapes: the Collection

Thanks to a grant from the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine, the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke has been able to undertake the renewal of its permanent collection. The exhibition allows visitors to appreciate the evolution of landscape art over time, from the panoramic views of earlier centuries to the dynamic concepts of contemporary art, and including the more personal vision of naïve artists. Many important artists are represented here, including some from our region, and representatives of the next artistic generation. A special place is accorded to our own landscape painter, Frederick Simpson Coburn.
