Massimo Di Silvestro

QAHN is proud to announce that the recipient of QAHN’s 2026 Young Volunteer Award is Massimo Di Silvestro, who volunteers his time and energy with the Vimy Foundation – Canadian Centre for the Great War (VFCCGW), in Montreal.

Massimo has been an active and dedicated volunteer with the Vimy Foundation – Canadian Centre for the Great War since May 2025. Over the course of the past year, he has contributed significantly to the promotion of Canadian First World War history through his work as a tour guide and visitor engagement volunteer.

During the summer season, Massimo supported daily museum operations by delivering guided tours and welcoming visitors from diverse backgrounds. Through his growing knowledge of the First World War and strong communication skills, he has helped make complex historical content accessible and engaging to the public. He is widely recognized as one of the most engaging and personable guides at the VF-CCGW, “consistently greeting visitors with warmth and enthusiasm, and ensuring they leave with both new knowledge and a meaningful experience,” says his nominator Ada Chan.

“Beyond his role in public programming,” Chan explains, “Massimo has demonstrated a strong commitment to personal growth within the heritage field. While facing a challenging job market for young graduates, he has continued to actively pursue opportunities in related sectors, including internships and work with organizations such as Amnesty International. At the same time, he has remained committed to volunteering with us on a regular basis, using his time to build skills, deepen his understanding of history, and contribute to our mission.”

According to Chan, Massimo’s dedication is “especially noteworthy given the personal challenges he has faced. Despite health-related obstacles and broader economic uncertainty, he continues to show up each week with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and an eagerness to take on new responsibilities. His perseverance, reliability, and genuine passion for heritage work exemplify the spirit of volunteerism this award seeks to recognize.

Through his contributions, Massimo not only supports the day-to-day operations of our institution but also plays an important role in fostering public interest in Quebec’s Anglophone heritage and Canada’s First World War history.
