Byron Clark is a genealogist with a keen interest in the history of the English-speaking people of the Magdalen Islands. Throughout the years, he has built an impressive collection of photographs, historical documents and genealogical records in paper, microfilm and microfiche including copies of birth, death and marriage ceritificates from 1793-1900; early cenus records; Lloyds of London Registers tracing information on merchant vessels and shipping casualties; and the Anglican Clerical Dictionaries.
Recognized as a pre-eminent local historian and expert on the English-speaking community. Mr. Clark is a published author of two commemorative (1975 and 1990) albums chronicling the historical development of the Anglican Church on the Islands as well as a general history of the local English-speaking community entitled "Gleanings on the Magdalen Island" (2000). He has been consulted and cited in numerous books written about the Islands as well as appearing in the bibliographies of various historical publications.
Mr. Clark was recently named a Member of Honour on the committee that advised Quebec's prestigious Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) in the preparation of a formal academic history of the Islands. His advice and information are widely slight from across Canada, the US, and as far away as Great Britain.
