Wakefield Covered Bridge. The covered bridge crosses the Gatineau River near Fairbairn House and it can be seen in the distance from the main street of the village, making it a top feature on heritage tours. First built in 1915, the bridge was rebuilt in 1997 following a decade-long project by community volunteers. From the bridge there are spectacular views of the river, and its east side gardens and staircase lead to a swimming area a few feet away. The bridge connects the house to the village and is a crossing for hikers and other pedestrians on walking trails through the village. Also, the Trans-Canada Trail leads hikers over the bridge to a mapped link in Hendrick Park. (Photo - Anita Rutledge)
