(Sherbrooke, June 25, 2025) – The Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network (QAHN) is proud to announce that the Townships Sun has been chosen as the recipient of the Richard Evans Award this year. This award recognizes outstanding long-term contribution by an organization or group of volunteers to the preservation and promotion of Anglophone heritage in the province of Quebec.

The Sun has been sharing stories of community and heritage for over five decades. Over the years, the magazine has relied on the dedication and innovation of volunteers working together to ensure the voices and stories, the history and heritage, of English-speaking Eastern Townshippers remain part of Quebec’s evolving history.

“Initially established under the Eastern Townships Social Action Group (ETSAG), the Townships Sun... has been a consistent presence, chronicling the past while engaging contemporary voices. Through its pages, the magazine continues to document critical themes, including rural life, the challenges of linguistic and cultural identity, and the ongoing transformation of the Townships,” says Marie Moliner, a volunteer with the magazine.

“Beyond its role as a historical record, the Sun actively fosters community engagement, ensuring that the heritage of English-speaking Townshippers is preserved and celebrated. By reflecting on the past and giving voice to the present, the magazine serves as both a mirror and a megaphone for the region’s Anglo-Quebecois heritage,” Moliner adds.

The Townships Sun is among this year’s five volunteer recognition award winners selected in honour of QAHN’s 25th anniversary year, and in recognition of their contributions to the preservation and promotion of Anglophone heritage across Quebec.
