(Sherbrooke, Québec, April 14, 2025)
The Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network is pleased to announce the results of the first call for applications for the new Supporting Heritage Awareness, Recognition (SHARE) program. Thanks to the generous support of the Department of Canadian Heritage under the Dedicated Fund for the English-speaking communities of Quebec, QAHN launched the SHARE microgrant program in January to raise the visibility of English-speaking heritage across the province while building bridges and fostering dialogue between Anglophones and Francophones. A total of $110,000 was available to allocate to successful applicants in this first round.
Emerging from a very competitive group of innovative applications, 10 organizations representing 6 regions were awarded funding for their dynamic and engaging projects which promise to make both English and French-speakers in the province more aware of the truly diverse array of stories that make up the Anglophone heritage of Quebec. QAHN executive director Matthew Farfan is delighted with what he has seen so far. “I am so impressed with the caliber and variety of original projects that were submitted from all across Quebec,” he said. “The selection committee had some really tough choices to make. I can’t wait to see what we get in Year 2!”
Among the winners are the Quebec Chapter of the National Association of Japanese Canadians to support public awareness of the Japanese-Canadian history of Farnham; the Baie des Chaleurs Military Museum for a digital media exhibition to explore the military stories of local Anglophone, Francophone, and Mi’kmaw communities and how they intersect; The Aylmer Heritage Association for their initiative to share stories from their rich archives with the public; and the “Exposures” Montreal Trans Film Festival for its project to explore the history of non-binary and trans filmmakers in Québec.
