Founded in 1828, Canada’s oldest lending library, the Atwater Library and Computer Centre (ALCC) is celebrating 180 years of service to Montrealers, and it is marking the milestone anniversary in a number of ways.

In the early 1700s, French colonists left fortified settlements near Montreal to clear new farms on the east tip of the land wedge between the Ottawa and St. Lawrence rivers.
Whether we realize it or not, when travelling through the streets of our towns, we are in fact travelling not only through local history, but in many cases our world history. When we ask ourselves, "What’s in a name?", we are already "en route" to discovering what binds us all today, a proud heritage in our past, whether we were born here or not.

The Greenwood Centre for Living History is not your typical museum. Donated in 1994 by Phoebe Nobbs Hyde to the Canadian Heritage of Quebec, this dynamic historical property will capture your imagination as you learn about the families who have called this place “home” for almost 300 years. Located in the beautiful town of Hudson some fifty kilometers West of Montreal, Greenwood provides a unique glimpse into the past where visitors are able to travel through time as they move from room to room.
In 2009, the Society opened its Museum, which is located in a heritage home at 542 Main Road. The museum contains a collection of artifacts pertaining to the area as well as an Archives.
The Greenwood residence, with its collection of artefacts and furnishings, calls forth a delightful reflection of Canadians at home over three centuries and provides an intimate glimpse into the lives of its unique inhabitants. Only two families, the Sabourins and the Delesderniers, have lived at Greenwood since it was first built in 1732.
