QAHN is very sad to announce the passing of a true Townships icon, Louise Hall.

Louise, a former educator and school principal, was a great friend to heritage, a long-time supporter of this organization, and (with her sister Adelaide) a co-winner of QAHN's 2014 Marion Phelps Award. Our sympathies to Adelaide and all her family and friends.

There are many wonderful Canadian history lessons, but one that has often been overlooked is that of Canadian inventor and automobile maker, George Foote Foss, of Sherbrooke, Quebec. More than 124 years ago, a prosperous mechanic, blacksmith, and bicycle repairman named George Foote Foss built Canada’s first successful gasoline engine automobile, which was later referred to as the Fossmobile.

Canadian Casino Heritage and Lingo
Canada’s casino and gambling industry has gone through a huge transformation over the years, turning into a multi-billion-dollar business. An industry that started with animal bone games thousands of years ago has transformed into lots of online casinos to choose from. As such, Canada is hailed as one of the countries where some of the earliest gambling games were conceived.

Happy Holidays from all of us here at QAHN. And stay healthy & safe!
